BALLSTON GOP ANNOUNCES 2011 CANDIDATES

Ballston Spa—The Town of Ballston Republican Committee announced its slate of candidates for Town Office today with Ballston Spa resident and Supervisor candidate Pete Connors at the top of the ticket and incumbents Town Councilman Tim Szczepaniak and Tax Collector Anne Hogue seeking re-election.

Mr. Connors, a native of Mechanicville and U.S. Army veteran currently serves as a Court Clerk in Ballston Spa.  He is a member and former Exalted Ruler of the Mechanicville Elks and a past President of the Mechanicville Knights of Columbus.  A former city chairman of the Mechanicville GOP, Mr. Connors has been active in Ballston Town politics since relocating to Ballston Spa in 2001.  Most recently, he successfully managed the Town Justice campaign of John Fantauzzi.

Town Councilman Tim Szczepaniak is seeking re-election, having won his seat in 2007.  A Facilities Manager at KAPL, Mr. Szczepaniak resides in Burnt Hills with his wife Lori, a lifelong Ballston resident and his two children, Lauren (11) and Carly (7).  Incumbent Anne Hogue has been serving as the Town Tax Collector for the past 14 years.  A longtime resident of the Town, Ms. Hogue resides in Burnt Hills and her family owns the popular Fo’Castle Farms.

Rounding out the ticket are first-time candidates Michael S. Prezioso, Ph.D. and Carol Shemo.  Dr. Prezioso is a New York State Licensed Psychologist and Director of Inpatient Services at the Capital District Psychiatric Center.  He has lived in the Capital District for 22 years and received his doctorate from the University at Albany in 1995.  He lives in Burnt Hills with his wife Julie, a Registered Nurse at the Capital District Psychiatric Center, and their four children, Matt (20), Elizabeth (16), James (14) and Mia (6).  Carol Shemo is seeking the Town Clerk position vacated by Muriel Swatling’s retirement.  Ms. Shemo, a graduate of St. John’s University with a B.A. in Biology, has served as Ms. Swatling’s Deputy Clerk for the past 15 years.  Ms. Shemo has lived in the area for 37 years and raised both of her now-grown children, Joe (31) and Mike (27) here in the Town of Ballston.  She lives in Ballston Lake with her husband George, a former volunteer firefighter and youth baseball commissioner who is now retired from New York State.

“We are very pleased to have such a strong slate of candidates again this year,” said Chairman Mike Groves.  “Each one of our endorsed candidates has a strong sense of community and will work tirelessly to serve their friends and neighbors with integrity as elected officials.”
